ABJ Scots Week at a Glance (SWAG)
February 12 - 16, 2024
Dear God,
Please watch over us with tender love, as this week we celebrate Ash Wednesday and the beginning of this Lenten season. We sign with a cross –ashes on our foreheads to remind us that there is a part of ourselves that is of this earth and that one day will return to dust. This is a symbol to others that we are not perfect but rather people on a journey to always do better. Help us during these 40 days to imagine a brighter and supportive future for ourselves and those we love. As Christ died and rose from the dead so too will we rise one day to be with God. We will be reunited with all those gone before us. Bless us as we begin our Lenten journey this week.
Amen

LEARNERS AND LEARNING
Robotics Mecha Mayhem
Last weekend, ABJ Robotics attended the Vex Robotics signature event, Mecha Mayhem in Calgary.
There were teams from all over Canada, the United States, and even a team from the U.K., and Brazil. In total, there was 135 teams at the event.
All teams gave it their best, and learned a lot at this tournament. They represented ABJ with class and should be proud of competing at such a high caliber tournament. Two teams advanced past the qualification rounds, but unfortunately got eliminated in the round of 16.
Well done to:

Aboriginal Studies 10
Aboriginal Studies is a new course this year and it is being developed and team taught by Miss Fitzgerald and Miss Lakusta. As part of each unit, students will be engaging in an authentic learning experience with a guest speaker, as well as going off-site for field trips. Last week, Knowledge Keeper Eva Stang visited Aboriginal Studies students last week to teach them all about smudging.
Student Highlight: Honouring Spirit Awards Nominees
The Alberta School Board Association (ASBA) called for nominations of First Nations, MĂ©tis, and Inuit students for their annual Honouring Spirit Awards in recognition of students who demonstrate leadership, honour, courage, and commitment to their education path. Honouring Spirit is an award that recognizes Indigenous students who are working toward their cultural connection and personal educational growth. Awards are granted to three students across Alberta in each of the grade divisions: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. All students who are nominated are recognized with a certificate and letter from ASBA.
Congratulations to our very own Miraca Davies and Tonya Rain who have been nominated for the Honouring Spirit Award!
