ABJ Scots Week at a Glance (SWAG)
February 19 - 23, 2024
This past week our school community came together for two Ash Wednesday masses. Our staff was so proud of our amazing students as we were joined by a few community members along with Father Jim from OLPH Parish. Much appreciation to the students who took on many roles to support the masses. Your involvement in your faith is exciting to witness. Whether you joined mass as a participant or had a role in our masses, please know our staff appreciate all of you for being present and engaged. This says so much about what positive vibes we must be creating when students on spares are choosing to attend mass with classmates.
During this Lenten season, we all practice some degree of self-examination. This allows us to assess personal growth and identify areas for improvement. Daily prayer that focuses on themes of repentance and forgiveness can enhance spiritual understanding. And if reading scripture doesn’t resonate with you at this time, perhaps praying the Rosary on our own or with our family, prayer before meals, before bed, or when we first wake up might become a new habit that supports your spiritual growth.
A wonderful Catholic resource called Busted Halo has this video below to summarize the season of Lent.

Young Authors' Conference
Each year over 400 selected students in grades 4 to 9 from both Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools are invited to spend the day with a variety of well-known children and young adult authors, illustrators and graphic artists—working with them and learning the tricks of the trade.
Students who show special interest or aptitude in the areas of writing and illustration are invited by their teacher to attend the conference. Attendance is teacher selected and there is no open registration, however, every attempt is made to give opportunities to those students who would value most from this experience. Any interested grade 9s are invited to see Mrs. Boake in room 189 for more information.

Basketball Updates
This week our Scots basketball teams all won all of their games! The grade 9, junior and senior teams all combined, made a Scots record of 9-0 this week. A huge congratulations to all of the players and coaches for their dedication and commitment to basketball.
Also, with a 9-0 record, the junior boys basketball team are having an incredible season and it seemed noteworthy that the boys season record matches the Scots record this week.
The grade 9s were at the SAL Tournament this past weekend. They played hard but unfortunately did not come away with any medals. They are back in league play this week against Ardrossan at ABJ. Come and cheer them on!
